Cork, located off the southwest coast of Ireland, is a university town centered on an island in the River Lee and connected to the sea by Cork Harbour. The 1824 prison in Cork City resembles a castle and once held prisoners in Australia. Its exhibits tell the story of the building. The steeple of Shandon Church (officially, St Anne's Church), which was built in the 18th century and stands on top of a hill, is a symbol of the city.
